Experimental Archaeology

Buy tickets

All over the world, archaeologists are trying to decipher artefacts of unknown function or seemingly inexplicable production methods through experiments, or to figure out techniques and sequences of work and rituals that have long been forgotten.

The exhibition presents experimental archaeology as a method and then goes into more detail about the individual areas of application. How is an experiment set up? Why is meticulous documentation so important? How much does a modern experiment reflect the reality of the past? Exciting experiments in many different fields of research can be seen: metal, glass, birch tar, burials, ceramics, dyeing, shipbuilding, musical instruments and much more.
